BLACK FILMS: "Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom" - Teaser And Trailer!
July 10, 2013 - HOLLYWOOD - "People learn to hate. They can be taught to love. For love comes more naturally to the human heart." Those are the words of Nelson Mandela as spoken by Idris Elba in the first teaser for "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom." The film's international trailer made its way online.
Shot from above, the quiet and moving clip is brief and effective: It offers but a glimpse of Elba's portrayal of Mandela in the film, as the actor is shown walking up a hill with a gait reminiscent of the South African president. "Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom" focuses on Mandela's younger days, but the teaser trailer shows an older version of the beloved world leader. (You'll notice his gray hair.)
The Weinstein Company is set to release "Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom" on Nov. 29; many are already expecting Elba to factor into the Oscar race for his performance, sight unseen.

"Shall we begin?" Idris Elba as Nelson Mandela asks in the first trailer for "Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom." As it turns out, marketing for the Weinstein Company release already began last week, when an international teaser for the Oscar hopeful debuted online. That clip showed precious little in the way of Elba, though it did feature his uncanny vocal impersonation of the South African leader; the "Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom" trailer that debuted on Thursday provides interested parties a whole lot more in the way of Elba and the film's story.
Based on an original screenplay by William Nicholson and directed by Justin Chadwick, "Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom" focuses on Mandela's younger days. "Public Enemy No. 1," "Hunted By Police," "Feared By The Government" read title cards in the beginning of the clip, before words like "Liberator" and "Revolutionary" flash across the screen.
For his part, Elba looks strong. He's been mentioned as a possible Best Actor contender, and this trailer does nothing to deter that excitement.
