BLACK HAIR: Spiraling Antennas Of Beauty, Cultural Pride And Freedom Of Expression - Chunky Bantu Knot-Out On Natural Hair!

November 14, 2013 - BLACK HAIR - Hey Guys! This is just a quick video showing my recent Bantu Knot-out take down process.

MORE ABOUT THIS BANTU KNOT SET:
• I did about 18 Bantu Knots, medium-sized (not too small)
• I only used one product to set the Bantu Knots: Oyin Hair Dew
• I did the Bantu Knots on dry hair
• For easier takedown, its important that your Bantu Knots sections are detangled
• I kept the Bantu Knots in overnight and almost the entire next day. But right before take down I also sat under the dryer for about 20 mins because I wanted to be sure they were 100% dried before taking them down.
• I coated my hands with jojoba oil to minimize frizz while taking down and separating the Bantu Knots. You can use whatever oil you like

BANTU KNOT TIPS:
I've done many Bantu Knots sets in the past, many of which were a complete frizzy fail, lol. Over time, I've learned some lessons about what works for my hair to get a successful Bantu Knots out. Here are a few of those tips:

1) Bantu Knots on dry, stretched hair. For me, it makes drying time way more manageable.

2) Don't layer on too many products. ESPECIALLY if you have low porosity hair. I have found with Bantu Knots outs on my hair that less is more. If I can get away with using only one water-based product, that's my preference. But if I need more hold, the most I will layer on is a bit of gel. Just remember that the more product you pack on, the longer your drying time is likely to be.

3) Understand the relationship between the size of your sections, drying time, and the resulting definition you are going for. The smaller your Bantu Knots, the less time it will take to dry and the tighter/smaller the resulting coils will be. The larger your Bantu Knots, the longer it will take to dry and the looser/larger the resulting coils will be. My favorite Bantu Knots outs have been somewhere in between :)

4) To minimize frizz at take down, make sure your sections are fully detangled prior to putting in the Bantu Knots - especially the ends. Detangled Bantu Knots will be much easier to separate, which will minimize frizz.

5) Allow Bantu Knots to dry and set COMPLETELY before taking them down. I can't stress this enough. Most of my past Bantu Knots outs have been a fail because my hair just wasn't completely dry and the Bantu Knots didn't set.

I did not think to film while I was doing the Bantu Knots this time. But if you'd like to see how I do my bantu knots, I have another Bantu Knots out video you can check out here:
