AFRICAN RENAISSANCE: Africa's Online Retail Boom Set To Soar - Number Of Internet Users On The Continent Has Grown At SEVEN TIMES The Global Average!
January 6, 2015 - AFRICA - The African online retail sector is set to soar in 2015 with over 800 retail sites in South Africa alone, according to World Wide Worx.
According to a report by the International World Statistics, the number of Internet users on the African continent has grown at seven times the global average, between 2000 and 2012, to a total of 167 million users.
“Although nothing can really replace the actual physical shopping experience, online shopping is increasingly becoming popular as fears of using credit cards and submitting personal information, such as delivery details online; further diminishes each day,” said the report.
The banking sector is supporting the m-commerce sector by enabling mobile transactions and payments.
From manufacturing to luxury goods many industries are moving their businesses into the e-commerce space. Industries hope to produce a rich, user-centric and consumer-focused online retail experience, which matches consumer expectations.
The e-commerce Africa Conference & Exhibition is set to take place at the CTICC in Cape Town, South Africa, from 3-4 February.
It will “bring together senior-level ecommerce and marketing professionals from all major industries, in the aim to educate, inform and inspire entrepreneurs and businesses alike.”
