ILYASAH SHABAZZ: Remembering Malcolm X - Black Lives Matter, Race Relations, And Black History Misconceptions!
February 23, 2016 - UNITED STATES - Ilyasah Shabazz, a daughter of Malcolm X, sits down with RT's Ashlee Banks to discuss the race relations in the United States 50 years since the assassination of her outspoken father.
Shabazz says people are largely uneducated on the African diaspora, and until that changes it will be difficult for Americans to confront racism, adding that it's important to say 'black lives matter' because our society has said otherwise for so long.
Shabazz says says that the narrative that Malcolm X was the anti-Dr. Luther King Jr., and that WEB Dubois was the anti-Booker T. Washington, is false, and cites her family's close relationship with his.
Shabazz contrasts that narrative with the more unified one of white historical figures, such as Thomas Jefferson and George Washington.
